Studies show that more than 90% of Americans support mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods, yet the United States is one of the only developed countries that does not require it. Without labeling of GE foods, we lose the basic right to make informed choices about our health.
Label It Hawaii upholds citizens' right to choose. We support democratic, transparent politics in the public interest. Our vision of human and ecological health in Hawaii includes the seven generations that will come after us, and therefore our obligation to act responsibly today. Food connects us to the 'aina (land) and to our health. When we give up the right to choose what we eat, we give up our right to health. Through a transparent labeling law, we can recover this basic freedom of choice for ourselves and for future generations.
